We left Camaret with plenty of time to get to our tidal gate at the Raz de Sein of one hour before high water Brest. The Raz is quite notorious for rough seas so we planned to pass through at slack water.
It was a gray drizzly day, in spite of which the cliffs of the Crozon peninsular that we had walked the day before were even more impressive from the sea.

Looking towards Pointe de Penhir and the Tas de Pois rocks.
The winds were light but we managed to average 5 kts under sail down to the Raz. Inevitably Falken passed us.

We passed La Vielle light and La Platte beacon the famous turning point in the Raz at 1501. Throughout the passage the drizzle came and went and the visibility dropped then improved. At some points you couldn't see the coast, at others it was quite clear. Close to La Vielle lighthouse it disappeared in mist as the Ile de Sein appeared in sunshine to starboard. As we passed La Vielle the weather cleared. We had to do a hurried gybe South of the lighthouse when the ferry to Ile de Sein from Sainte Evette decided they weren't giving way to a yacht.

We had originally planned to go into Audierne. Audierne is up a drying channel, which we calculated that we could get through. However, we realised that if we went into Audierne we would be restricted when we could get out for our next leg, so we picked up a buoy in Sainte Evette just outside Audierne. Mike and Carol had already planned to do this.
